JR. TEAMS REMINDER:
Jr. Girl’s Basketball teams wishing to qualify for the B. C. Junior Girls Basketball Invitational Provincial Championship Tournament MUST:
1) Register with the BCSSGBA with the same team registration form and the $15 registration fee as has been in place since 1993; zone reps will distribute this information to all participating schools in their respective zones. Link to the form and more information below.
2) Use only players deemed eligible based upon the following rule which B. C. School Sports previously followed:
(previous reference 6.3.5.1) – A student can participate in up to four (4) playing days at a higher age level than the team for which the student is registered. Only two (2) of the four (4) playing dates may involve restricted or league competition. On the fifth (5th) playing day overall or the third (3rd) playing day involving restricted or league competition, the player becomes ineligible to play in the B. C. Junior Girls Basketball Invitational Provincial Championship Tournament. Teams using ineligible players will become ineligible to seek qualification or an invitation for this tournament.
This rule DOES NOT have any impact on Jr. teams which do not choose to pursue qualification in the B. C. Junior Girls Basketball Invitational Provincial Championship Tournament. As an invitational tournament, the BCSSGBA has and reserves the right to invite only teams which follow these eligibility rules to participate in its junior girls basketball championship tournament.

ELIGIBILITY RULE DETAILS: This message is to be given to all junior and senior girls basketball coaches at every secondary school in B. C. This message relates to the eligibility of teams to participate in the annual B. C. Junior Girls Basketball Invitational Provincial Championship Tournament to be held March 3-5 at the Langley Events Centre.
The B. C. Secondary School Girls Basketball Association supports the development of girls basketball and all rules which encourage participation in the sport. The BCSSGBA understands and respects the rationale and the benefits for some schools with the removal of BCSS 6.3.5.1 limiting the number of games a student may play at a higher level and remain eligible at the junior level. However, in order to maintain the integrity of the B. C. Junior Girls Basketball Invitational Provincial Championship Tournament, only teams adhering to the rules put in place by the BCSSGBA for this tournament will be eligible to compete in this tournament. The B. C. Junior Girls Basketball Invitational Championship Tournament was established as a showcase for junior girls basketball players, not those who play an unlimited number of games at the senior level.
Therefore, only players deemed eligible based upon the following rule which B. C. School Sports previously followed are eligible:
====================================
This from BCSS to clarify things.
While BCSS allows Jr players to play Sr. and return to jr throughout the year … in PLAYOFFS …. every player on a school’s Sr. roster MUST BE REGISTERED on the Sr. roster on EXNET. Once a player is regsitered on the Sr. EXNET-BCSS roster they can NOT go play Jr.
NOTE: Re: Playoffs
Dear Athletic Directors, Zone Reps, Sport Commissioners or coaches,
Please note that all student-athletes who wish to compete in playoffs must be registered on Exnet for the appropriate age-level team. For example: they must be registered for the senior team if they are playing in the senior playoffs. If they are not properly registered on Exnet, you may risk fines or forfeiture of games. You cannot be registered on the junior team and play in senior playoffs.
The new Moving Up rule (sec III C2.4 and D3.6) stipulates that student-athletes are allowed to move to a higher age-group team (e.g. they can move from the junior team to the senior team). They are not allowed to move down to a lower age-group team. If a student moves up to a higher age-group team using the procedure outlined below, they are still not allowed to move down to the lower age-group team.
To move students to a higher age-group team, they must first be registered on the lower age-group team. Then, a Moving Up form (found here: http://www.bcschoolsports.ca/resources/eligibility-moving-player-higher-age-group-team) must be submitted to the BCSS office via e-mail (preferable) or fax. Students will be moved on the date indicated in the field “Date students will start playing at higher level competition”. Please check your Exnet roster prior to playing so that you are certain they have been added to your team roster.
