BC Junior Girls Provincials expand to 24 teams for 2017
Qualifying tournament announcement (1)
At this year’s AGM a motion was passed to expand the Junior Girls Provincial tournament to
24 teams. As a result, a new process needed to be created to allow an additional 8 teams to
qualify. A number of proposals were discussed and presented to the executive with the
following method being approved for the 2016/17 season.
The current zone playoffs with the existing berths will remain status quo as follows: FV-3,
LM-2, Island-2, Okanagan-2, North Central-2, Northwest-1, Kootenay-1, host-1 and 2 wildcards.
The additional 8 berths will be earned by winning one of the 8 qualifying tournaments which
will be held in season during the month on January and the first week of February. These
events will be held in different regions of the province to allow the maximum number of teams
to participate in the opportunity to qualify early for provincials. All tournaments will be open to
all teams in the province on a first come basis with a priority given to a set number of teams in
the hosting zone. This year we have chosen to sanction 3 existing tournaments, as many teams
have started to build their season schedule already, and the executive committee will run the
other 5 tournaments. The tournaments are listed below with the dates and contact info of the
organizers involved. Blue are the executive tournaments and black for existing tournaments.

seeding of the tournaments will be done by the executive committee to ensure fair draws.

All of the remaining tournaments (5) will be overseen by the executive committee who will
determine the teams eligible for each of those tournaments while coordinating the event with
the different host schools. Teams will be limited to 2 of the tournaments run by the executive
committee. All tournaments will be 8 team tournaments with the exception of the Sweet
Sixteen tournament in Kelowna which has always been a 16 team tournament. The date for
putting in your team’s application will begin June 1st, 2016. All team information should be
forwarded to Don Hildebrand and should include the dates desired and one alternate if
Cost of the 5 executive tournaments will be in line with regular tournament costs. To qualify
to participate in the tournaments, all teams must adhere to the eligibility rule re playing up,
have paid in full their entry fee and be registered with the BCSSGBA. These are required before
confirmation of your place in the tournaments you wish to enter.
